Dear developers & C (or better '& Py'),
what I read on the synapse web site is amazing!

I'm a BSc electronic eng.
I'm thinking to start on december an academic MSc research project on SNAP/Py. I would like to demonstrate once again that the learning time of python and the cost-safe capability are important for the develop and diffusion, this time, of the WSNs. And that the SNAP is a high engineered creation.
Please, I would like to ask just few questions that are very important for me and for my academic institute before subscribing the purchase order for the evaluation kits.

Is SNAP a public protocol or open under licence, and is it possible to read the protocol specifications (e.g. RFC or similar)?

Can I see a 'full' sniffing of packets in the network traffic?

I'm in Europe, can you sale here the hosts with the AES encryption feature?

Which kind of sensor do you have or can I connect on the (accelerometers, gas, pressure...)?

Can I setup all the softwares of a Synapse network on linux machines?

Can I use (for test and measurement) the Zigbee protocol on your products?

I see that SNAPPy does not support float numbers. How do the values from ADC are received from the hosts?

Which and how many eval. kits at least should I order to test a fully functional net?

If possible, can you clarify me the relation between your products and:
www.panasonic.com/rfmodules

Thanks in advance.
Best regards.

Is SNAP a public protocol or open under licence, and is it possible to read the protocol specifications (e.g. RFC or similar)?

No, it is a protocol developed from the ground up by us here at Synapse Wireless, Inc. It is however licensed to other vendors for use on their products.

Can I see a 'full' sniffing of packets in the network traffic?

Starting with version 2.2 we do include a sniffer that will show your packets.

I'm in Europe, can you sale here the hosts with the AES encryption feature?

Please contact our sales department directly for obtaining our products outside of the United States. sales@synapse-wireless.com

Which kind of sensor do you have or can I connect on the (accelerometers, gas, pressure...)?

It depends on what evaluation kit you purchase, the Users Guide for the kit will describe what is included.

Can I setup all the softwares of a Synapse network on linux machines?

Yes, we support running Portal and SNAPconnect on Ubuntu 8.04

Can I use (for test and measurement) the Zigbee protocol on your products?

Yes, depending on the SNAP module you purchase the vendor may include a ZigBee implementation.

I see that SNAPPy does not support float numbers. How do the values from ADC are received from the hosts?

This function returns an integer value 0-1023 (these are 10-bit analog to digital converters). Since the full-scale volage is 3.3 volts, each step represents about 3.2 millivolts.

Which and how many eval. kits at least should I order to test a fully functional net?

Either evaluation kit that we offer has enough nodes to form a mesh network.

If possible, can you clarify me the relation between your products and:
www.panasonic.com/rfmodules

Panasonic licenses are SNAP protocol for use on their modules.

Thank you very much Mark! here are my last questions...less than before.
So you did the great job and create the protocol.
I understand that one cannot reuse the SNAP protocol without pay the licence.
But just to see the specifications, packets, headers, flags. etc. can one read the specifications somewhere?
Not to use them but to understand.
If I start an academic research i would like to know more about the routing, transactions..etc.
Can one pay to see the specs?
Otherwise what is all that one can know about it?
Does the gateway runs on Ubuntu?

Thanks for the support.

Can one pay to see the specs?
Our sales department would have the specifics on how you might be able to obtain the specs.

Does the gateway runs on Ubuntu?

Yes, the "gateway" has been renamed by our marketing department to SNAPconnect.
