Just in case anyone using 2.2 Beta is thinking of using AES 128, you can't (at the moment). The AES 128 RFEs ship with 2.1.8 Firmware. I assume this can't be reprogrammed in the field without losing the AES encryption support.

Any timeline on when AES will be available for 2.2 Beta? These RFEs are pretty much useless to us, since they don't support any of the new functions that were added since 2.1.8.

When we cut the builds, the collection of files created includes the AES-128 capable versions. We just don't POST the AES-128 capable builds (as you know, AES-128 is not a free upgrade).

Contact your sales guy. They can confirm any licensing issues, and provide you with a .sfi for the latest 2.2 BETA. You then just do a Firmware Upgrade using Portal.

The AES 128 RFEs ship with 2.1.8 Firmware.

All RFEs are currently shipping with some form of 2.1 in them.

2.2 is not released yet, it is currently in open BETA. People who want to try out the BETA code have to do a Firmware Upgrade.

I assume this can't be reprogrammed in the field without losing the AES encryption support.

If you put non-AES firmware into the units, then you are right - they will not do encryption. As I was getting at in my previous post, AES-128 capable 2.2 builds do exist, they just are not included with Portal.

Once you re-upload AES-128 capable firmware into a node, it will again be capable of encryption (there is nothing in the node that is "destroyed" by the default firmware).

Yeah, I did a little testing with the encrypted radios even though their firmware was out of date. They kind of worked, but 2.2-specific functions did not, or course (such as the 10mS HOOK). I didn't bother to bring them up to 2.2 non-encrypted firmware because I didn't know if we were going to have to return these for credit or if I was going to have to roll back to 2.1.8 and re-write my code.

I've contacted the sales folks to see what they can do.

Thanks!

I'm now up and running with 128-bit security. Thanks!
