We tried Portal 2.2.6 on Win XP Professional x64 - COM port communications do not work at all, while USB is working fine.
I have checked COM port on the PC in question with third party software - works fine.
Also, in general we noticed that COM port communications in Portal less reliable then USB. However Upgrade, Default and Erase functions worked fine on standard XP. It is the main COM connection which usually has some problems (do not list local mac, timeouts, etc).

We've seen some COM port problem with the 2.2.6 BETA firmware and looking into them.

I am currently running Portal 2.1.26 on XP and Vista (testing). I removed 2.1.26 on both and installed the beta. Everything loads properly and my connection is via COM. Portal sees the node and does tell me that the firmware is out of date. I then tried to upgrade the firmware under options. I did the refresh scan and it found my COM port but it says it's in use thus I cannot upgrade the firmware.
Is this still an issue? Is there another way to upgrade firmware?
I am using a OS X Snow Leopard and running Fusion. I reloaded Portal 2.1.26 and it works great. When I go to Options and select to upgrade firmware, the program does not complain at all and allows me to choose the COM with warning.
Thanks

Before launching the firmware upgrade, disconnect Portal from the serial port by using he connect/ disconnect icon in Portal's toolbar. Your COM port is busy talking to Portal, which expalins the "in use" message.
I believe we are adding a message to prompt the user to do this disconnect.
Two tips:
1) It is better to use the RESET button, over a power off/on, for the required rest during the firmware upgrade.
2) If you are using the boards with two character displays in our EK2500 kit, out of the box the serial ports do not work if on battery power.

You can download these units too, you just may have to change a jumper. Look in the SNAP Hardware Reference.

Thank you. That did the trick.
